What it is
Gamma generates presentations, documents, and lightweight websites from a prompt, outline, or existing document. It produces a structured, designed draft with layout, typography, imagery, and pacing already in place. Everything is built from editable “cards,” so you can rewrite text, swap images, and change the theme. Finished work can be shared as a link or exported to PowerPoint, PDF, PNG, or Google Slides.
Gamma handles design and assembly quickly, leaving you to check the content, evidence, and story.
What it is good at for advocacy orgs
- First-draft decks, fast. Board updates, program reviews, campaign retrospectives, and volunteer orientations are good candidates. Paste the underlying document or outline, generate, then fix the content and replace stock imagery with your own.
- Donor and funder briefings. Keep a standing outline for recurring updates, replace the numbers and examples each quarter, and generate a fresh first draft.
- Workshop and training materials. Decks plus matching handouts from the same content, which keeps materials consistent.
- Lightweight sites. Gamma can publish event pages, campaign microsites, and small multi-page hubs. A conventional web platform is still a better home for complex sites with custom functionality or long-term content management needs.
The strongest workflow pairs it with a writing assistant: develop the argument and outline in Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, then hand the outline to Gamma for assembly.
Where it fits
Gamma turns prepared content into designed materials. Keep your brand designer involved in flagship public work, and use conventional presentation tools when dense charts and tables need precise control. Gamma fits internal and semi-external presentations that need to look credible but are unlikely to receive design time.
Relative to the rest of this library: your AI tool of choice develops the content, Gamma presents it, and NotebookLM is for digging through source material before you have anything to present.
Watch-outs
- Generated text needs checking. If you let Gamma write content from a short prompt, it will fill gaps with plausible filler — including invented statistics. The safer pattern is to supply your own text and let it handle structure and design.
- Generated images can miss. Stock-style and AI-generated imagery often reads as generic, and depictions of animals or farming can be inaccurate in ways your audience will notice. Use your organization’s own photos for anything public.
- Brand fit is on you. Default themes can look polished while still feeling generic. Set the colors, fonts, and imagery before generating, and give donor-facing decks a careful pass. Full custom branding features vary by plan.
- Exports need a final check. Fonts, gradients, and layout can shift in PowerPoint or PDF. Open the exported file and review every page before sending it.
- Data rules still apply. An outline pasted into Gamma is data shared with a third-party service. Keep sensitive details out, per your AI policy.
Getting started
- Sign up at gamma.app. The free plan includes starter generation credits and basic exports, which is enough to evaluate the workflow.
- Take a presentation you have already given. Paste its outline (not the slides — the underlying outline) and generate a deck.
- Spend ten minutes editing: rewrite one card, swap one image for one of your own, and change the theme. Check whether the editor feels workable for your team.
- Export to PowerPoint and check what survives the export, since that is how it will reach colleagues who do not use Gamma.
- Compare the result with the original. Decide whether the saved layout time outweighs the editing and brand cleanup it still needs.
Pricing snapshot
The free plan includes basic generation and export with Gamma branding. Its initial AI credits do not refresh. Paid plans add combinations of longer generations, branding removal, advanced models, custom fonts and branding, analytics, workspace templates, and custom domains. AI usage still consumes credits on paid plans: each plan includes a monthly allowance, and paid users can purchase more credits if they run out. Check current pricing because plan features and credit rules change.
